Oh, What a Glorious Vision for Our Startups!
Dear absolutely no one in particular,
So many believe our startups are heroically transforming "unemployed youth into low skill labor"? How inspirational! Let me slow-clap while reviewing these totally irrelevant statistics:
They said Chinese startups are making leaps and bounds in deep tech and green energy.
While China pours over 2.4% of GDP into R&D (compared to our modest 0.7% contribution), and handles business registrations in under 24 hours (versus our bureaucratic obstacle course), we're busy perfecting the art of converting human potential into... waste? Brilliant strategy!
Our manufacturing sector shrinking rather than reaching that ambitious 25% GDP target? Our 63rd position in ease of doing business (compared to China's 31st)? Our literacy gap of 23%? All clearly part of our master plan to excel at waste creation!
Speaking of our startup-friendly ecosystem, let me share a personal anecdote: I recently tried opening a current account for my startup. Despite having a valid UDYAM registration, not a single bank would proceed because I work from a co-working space and couldn't provide "address proof" for my place of business. Apparently, official government registration isn't enough documentation in our digital age! Two weeks of visiting different banks, and still no account. But hey, at least I contributed to the economy by wasting my time and productivity!
But wait, there's more to this magnificent startup wasteland:
While South Korea processes patent applications in 10-12 months, Indian entrepreneurs enjoy a luxurious 4-5 year waiting period! What better way to ensure innovative ideas mature like fine wine before reaching the market? By then, of course, global competitors have already commercialized similar concepts, but that's beside the point.
India's venture capital funding declined by 38% in 2023 compared to 2022, reaching a mere $7.5 billion. Meanwhile, Chinese startups raised $44 billion despite global headwinds. Clearly, we're pioneering a unique "bootstrapping by necessity" model for our entrepreneurs!
Did you know that starting a business in India requires navigating through approximately 12-13 procedures across multiple departments, taking an average of 18 days? Singapore accomplishes the same in just 1.5 days with 3 procedures. But where's the character-building struggle in efficiency?
Our electricity infrastructure ensures startups enjoy frequent power outages—averaging 70+ hours per month in many regions—creating excellent opportunities to invest in backup generators and UPS systems, thus supporting that industry! Such thoughtful ecosystem development.
Our digital infrastructure is so advanced that despite having the world's cheapest data, 45% of rural India still lacks reliable internet access. This brilliantly preserves our traditional methods while simultaneously promoting digital India.
Perhaps instead of worrying about trivial matters like innovation funding, efficient governance, or education, we should celebrate this unique ability to transform unemployment into waste. It's certainly a distinctive economic model no other nation has attempted!
Who needs manufacturing jobs when we can have... waste? Who needs digital-first governance when we have... forms in triplicate? Who needs competitive R&D when we have... more waste?
Truly visionary leadership at work here. At this rate, we'll certainly achieve our goal of becoming a $5 trillion economy... just don't ask when.
